AZA Allsop

Dr. AZA Allsop is a neofusion artist, neuroscientist, and psychiatrist who is deeply rooted in the African diasporic musical tradition. He grew up listening to gospel, hiphop, jazz, reggae, soca, calypso, and soul, and all of these genres have had a profound influence on the development of his musical style. He combines art, science, and community to redefine culture and make social impact. His music is relevant for the culture while facilitating progression to a higher degree of consciousness, identity, and social justice. Dr. AZA does research at the intersection of music mindfulness, psychedelics, and social cognition. He studied Biology, Jazz, and Philosophy at North Carolina Central University, received his graduate training from the Harvard-MIT MD PhD program, and was an Emerson scholar at Berklee College of Music. He completed clinical training in psychiatry at Yale with a certification in psychedelic assisted therapy and research. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale and Howard University and Director of the Energia Center for Collective Healing.He teaches meditation, yoga, and music and co-founded Mefreely, and Brain, Bias, and Being, companies that combine arts, science, and community building to drive socio-cultural change.
