Sean J. Marshall
Sean J. Marshall is a visual artist, author, tattoo artist, filmmaker, mentor and advocate whose life story is a powerful testament to resilience, accountability, and the possibility of transformation.
While serving 20 years in prison, Sean rebuilt his identity and purpose through art, education and service to his community. Sean was granted Clemency from Governor Polis in 2022, in strong part because of how he used art to transform himself, his incarcerated peers and the culture (and walls) of the prisons he was incarcerated in.
Sean is the author of Changing Faces and Discarded Lives and the subject of the documentary Changing Faces: A Story of Hope and Redemption.
Through his artwork, writing, and public speaking, Sean explores themes of identity, redemption, justice, resilience, and the human capacity for change. His work challenges society to recognize the potential that exists in people who have been impacted by the criminal justice system.
Today he works with Atlas Hope in the Bronx, mentoring justice impacted men, while also maintaining a strong artistic practice.
